Callao Cave is is perhaps one of the most popular caves in the Philippines. It is a cave system with seven chambers located in the town of Peñablanca, Province of Cagayan - some kilometers away from Taguegarao City.
It is one of the best known tourist attractions in Cagayan because of its magnificent large stalactites, stalagmites and columns that illuminates at dark. What makes this cave special is the presence of a small chapel in one of its spacious caverns. You'll also see many different formations such as the Column, Praying angel, the Chapel, Skeleton, mini Banaue Rice Terraces, Elephant’s head, Rocket, Ice cream scoops, Lion’s Head, a silhouette of Michael Jackson and many more.
As one of the tourist attractions in Cagayan province, one should not go home without visiting Callao cave.
HOW TO GET TO CALLAO CAVE
- If you're coming from outside the Philippines, your point of entry should be the city of Manila.
- From Manila, take a 12-hour bus ride or a 1-hour plane ride to Tuguegarao City, the capital of Cagayan province.
- From Tuguegarao City, you have 2 options to get to Callao Cave:
- Option 1: Charter a tricycle or a jeepney/van (if you're on a big group) that will bring you directly to Callao Cave. Fare may vary, depending on your arrangement with the tricycle driver. Travel time is about an hour.
- Option 2: From the city terminal, take tricycle to Peñablanca. Fare is 70 pesos and travel time is 1.5 - 2 hours. From there, take a boat to cross Pinagcanauan River. Fare is 40 pesos (2-way).
